Perth and the first week of May

The first week of May couldn’t have run smoother in terms of my training. A couple of long runs along Perth’s beautiful coastline were followed by my first organised running catch up w Stefan and Kylie from the Perth Trail Runners facebook group.

This run was an out and back from the start of the Bibbulmun track in Kalamunda to Mandaring Weir. Starting just after sunrise we took off down a technical single track into the valley and through some beautiful Australian bush. The different shades of blue mountain contours on the horizon were breathtaking and i promised myself to come back for a multi day hike with Ola and the kids one day.

The previous night i had gone out with my brother, his wife, and my cousins to Northbridge for a dinner to celebrate his impending 40th birthday.  We had settled on a well known hummus restaurant. The food was amazing, but my gut didn’t seem to think so 12kms into next day’s run… needless to say i was fortunate there were 2 toilets along the way. Lesson learnt… on longer runs into the bush – pack some toilet paper in a zip lock bag. Just in case!

I rounded the week off with a short recovery run and banked 120km for the week. More importantly i had managed 3 longer runs 24-32-34km in consecutive days and this has given me a massive confidence boost. When the big run starts I’ll need to run double that distance each day but will also have much more time to do it in.
