Well its been a hectic 3 weeks! I made a decision about the toenail, got some excellent tips about the run from the record holding Joe Ward and even became a sponsored ‘athlete ‘!
Despite plenty of positive feedback on the question of ridding myself of the big toenail for good, I was still hesitant to make any permanent changes and hadn’t really spoke much with Ola about it in the last couple of weeks. In fact i wasn’t sure Ola was all that keen on it either. So on the eve of my self-imposed deadline when Ola said…”aren’t you going to get your nail off tomorrow” I took that as a green light and committed to at least a discussion with Ele the podiatrist. She confirmed that it was already starting to grow in again – and that was enough for me to decide right then and there to go under the knife. No regrets!
Making contact with Joe has certainly made the whole adventure feel much more ‘real’. He has been super helpful with tips about the run – in particular given me more to think about when it comes to some of the hairier highway sections of the run. All going to plan i’ll get to meet Joe in person when i run past his place south of Newcastle.
On the sponsorship front I’m surprised companies haven’t been throwing themselves at me! HA! I’m learning the hard way that sponsorship isn’t so easy. I have had some positive news with Bruce at ‘The Run Inn‘ offering some much needed assistance with any spare shoes that I might need and FisioCrem Australia have offered to take me on as a sponsored athlete and have supplied me with some much needed massage cream.
Being sidelined with my healing toe hasn’t been all bad tho – I’m still able to maintain some heart conditioning on my indoor trainer and my body is getting some much needed rest. \
I sure do miss running though!!
